Outdoor Pursuits

The great outdoors is quite literally on our doorstep and with a store for all your equipment we love to welcome active people to the house.

Apart from walking, there are fantastic cycling routes both on and off road. Many of the walk ways double up as cycle tracks and the various glens and mountains offer some of the most spectacular mountain trails. The old railway line has become the Deeside Way, which runs from Aberdeen to Ballater. Locally Aboyne and Tarland have mountain bike trails and Glenlivet is a short drive for those wishing for more adventurous routes. Cyclehighlands in Ballater is a fantastic resource where bikes can be hired.

The area is also fantastic for running and numerous events are held annually, including RunBalmoral, the Illuminator half marathon and the infamous Beast Race as well as the hill races of the various Highland Games. Runhighlands also offers guided running holidays.

Snowsports are also catered for with both Glenshee and the Lecht ski resorts a forty minute drive from the house. Glenshee offers the most extensive runs in Scotland and the Lecht is particularly great for beginners. Whether ski-ing, boarding, sledging or mountain biking in the summer all kit is available to hire on site.
